Tide run to end tonight?
I hope not but it could happen. Colorado is a great basketball team. They have superstar guard in 6-6 Alec Burks who is averaging 20 ppg. The other guard, Cory Higgins, who averages 16 ppg. Higgins needs 14 points tonight to become the Buffalo’s all time leading scorer.
Tonight might end being like the Flash and Hulk getting it on. Colorado averages 80 ppg which is 1th in the nation. Alabama gives up only 58.9 ppg, which is 7th nationally. Colorado is the 1lth best shooting team in the NCAA at 48%. The is giving up only 38% to opponents from the field.
Talk about a contrast in styles and here it it comes. The unstoppable object vs. the immovable object.
Tide must shoot well from outside...
For Bama it will be run when you can off the defensive glass but slow it down and pound it inside if you can’t get a cheap one. The Tide has a considerable advantage inside. The Buffs have a considerable advantage at guard. The Tide has Tony Mitchell and the Buffs don’t really have a good match up for the high flyer. Look for Burks to get the defensive nod if Colorado goes man. The Big Twelve team will want to play man to win the defensive glass to run their high powered offense. The zone might help them keep Bama from making some key outside baskets but they’ll have to give up their running game to do so.
Bama is a 2 point favorite going to tipoff tonight. At home, I’d take the Tide in heartbeat. But Bama hasn’t shown they can win on the neutral floor. Throw out the Bahamas and that makes the away from home court stats look a little better. The Tide is not the team they were in the dark days of November and December.
Both teams feel like they got snubbed by the NCAA. They did. Bama beat Georgia twice. Colorado lost to the Dawgs. Alabama has won some big games this season. They beat a bi-polar Texas team. They beat Mike Anderson at Missouri, and Kansas State lost the hat trick to the Buffs.
The Garden, the Empire State Building, the Holland Tunnel, and the naked cowboy plus basketball. Does it get any better.
My pick: Whoever controls the pace.
