Eight-man rotation helps Tide beat Vandy 68-61...

It took Avery Johnson almost 30 games but he dug up a strategy that basketball coaches have used for decades. He picked out eight players and stuck with them. The result was a win. Now, Vandy will never be mistaken for a good basketball team. In all honesty, neither will Alabama at this point in the season. A win is a win and moves the Tide to 16-11 overall and 7-7 in the SEC Conference. Bama may be chasing a carrot at the end of the stick, but their NCAAT hopes stay alive. (Bama did put

It was obvious the shortened line-lineup helped the Tide in many ways. First, they had a consistency of play. The Tide got tired in the last ten minutes of the second half, but those eight young men hung on to win. The Tide has only 10 turnovers for the game, they broke even on boards mainly through the effort of Hall, Ingram, and Petty. Petty didn't score by he rebounded, had 3 assists, and one big steal. All of Bama's players played hard. The Tide flowed to a 23 point lead in the second half, but Vandy got into the paint and made a comeback. I thought that Johnson might have played two bigs during that run to cut down on the Vandy penetration. Regardless, the hung on when they failed so many times this season. Kira Lewis, Jr. and Dazon Ingram just don't have the speed and footwork to stop penetration. Bama held the 'Dores to 43% from the floor and only 4-17 from the arc.

The win was nice, and Johnson is clearly trying to find something to win. Did this win make Bama fans think they can win their last four games? I'll leave that up to you. The Tide's Net fell to 55 due to Vandy's overall record. LSU beat Tennessee 82-80 without Waters, Kentucky killed Auburn.

Bama has road games in South Carolina and Arkansas. Home games are with Auburn and LSU. If Bama and somehow win three of their last four they might get in. If the Tide wins 18 in the regular season it will take two in the SECT in my opinion.
