Grant was describing the horror that fell from the sky, and misery that thousands now suffer on the ground. But when he referred to Alabama as "our State" my heart swelled with pride. Coach doesn't say much. When he does he is eloquent. He spoke to the people of Alabama that day from his heart and from a man who has endured personal loss. What a role model this fine young man is to the children of our State. In that one moment I understood how he can motivate his team to run through walls.
That's all I wanted to say. Every once in a while a person comes along who reminds you that kindness and goodness still exist. That it came with soft words from a hard taskmaster made it more impressive. That he is our basketball coach makes me proud.
